Gideon's Army documents the lives of three public defenders: two black women and one black man. Though the film was released last year and was aired by HBO last July, I caught it for the first time on Netflix today. Dawn Porter, a Black woman, directed the film, and I was engrossed from the opening scene. In the film, the lawyers and their clients make immense sacrifices to combat a system designed for their failure. I was riveted until the very end.
Catch it on Netflix or Amazon
