Maya Peterson Speaks with Melissa Harris-Perry About Diversity in Elite Prep Schools

Maya Peterson's story circulated earlier this month because of the controversy that followed an Instagram picture she posted while she was student body president of The Lawrenceville School. Last week she sat down with Melissa Harris-Perry to discuss the context in which she took the photo. Peterson was quick to acknowledge her love for her alma mater (she recently graduated), but she, however, received punishment when other students do not. “You have people dressing up as Indian chiefs and geishas, and taking pictures," she explained. "And it’s funny but then when it’s happening the other way around to the majority of the population, all of a sudden it’s a problem.”
