18-Year-Old Shanice Williams Lands Role of Dorothy in NBC's 'The Wiz' Live!


Producers of NBC's upcoming live TV adaptation of the Broadway classic "The Wiz" chose 18-year-old Shanice Williams to join the cast as Dorothy.
Williams beat out hundreds of young women for the coveted role. The newcomer has five years of musical training including dance and piano. Although this is her first major television role, Williams has co-starred in several local productions, including "West Side Story," "You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and "42nd Street."

Williams will join stars Stephanie Mills, Queen Latifah, David Alan Grier and Mary J. Blige. Mills, who originally played Dorothy in the broadway production, who will play Auntie Em. Latifah will star as The Wiz, Blige will play Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West and Grier will play The Cowardly Lion.



The live television broadcast is scheduled for December 3rd, 2015.
