Black Woman Student Attacked By Three White Men at UC Davis



Three men were arrested in connection to an assault on the UC Davis campus in Davis, California that has been classified as a hate crime.

A Black woman UC Davis student was assaulted at around 3 a.m. Monday near her home on campus. The student called campus police, who responded and arrested three suspects.

Lonny Doyal Lee, 24, of West Sacramento, and Justin Sheppard, 22, of Sacramento, were arrested on suspicion of assault and battery, committing a hate crime and public intoxication.

Jake Lee, 22, of West Sacramento, was arrested for public intoxication, police said. None of the suspects were students at UC Davis.

The woman did not require medical treatment.

UC Davis released a statement on the attack, which reads in part:

"We hope this unacceptable incident will serve to further advance dialogue about how the UC Davis community can continue to build a culture and climate based on mutual respect, support and caring," the university said in a statement.
