Danai Gurira Created the Story She Wanted to See, Now Her Show is Headed to Broadway

Danai Gurira, you may know her as Michonne on The Walking Dead, is a talented playwright and director. Her play Eclipsed will be the first production on Broadway with a cast and creative team comprised completely of Black women. Eclipsed opens on February 23.

The road to her success has not been an easy one. She gives some insight into her inspirations on PBS.

"I want women and girls to not have to keep searching for stories about themselves," she says.

Gurira is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She attended, she says, so she could reach this moment. "I went to grad school because I wanted to learn the rules, so that I could know how to break them."
