No one is more excited about Viola Davis' historic Emmy win than her 5-year-old daughter, Genesis Tennon.

According to a report released by the CDC in 2013, more women in the Black community are forgoing formula and breastfeeding their babies (from 47.4% to 58.9% between 2000 and 2008) and for longer periods of time. While the increase is nice, mothers across the country are encouraging their fellow mothers to increase these numbers. The lack of breastfeeding has a direct link to infant mortality.

A single mother was arrested by Houston police after being accused of abandoning her two small children in a mall food court, KHOU reports.

Katherine Jackson lost her 18-year-old son just days before his high school graduation. Aaron Dunigan was returning home from prom when the car he was riding in crashed into a truck, in what turned out to be a fatal collision, NBC Chicago reported. The high school prom king was killed along with the truck driver. Another student in the car, Mike Crowter, was injured. Upon graduating from Illinois’ Thornton Fractional North High School the quarterback was set to play football at Southern Illinois University this fall.

This year, Ciara celebrated her first Mother's Day by sharing private footage of her and her baby boy Future Zahir accompanied by vocals for the newest song "I Got You" off of her sixth studio album "Jackie."

After her sons, Donovan and Dillon, refused to take the requisite first day of school pictures, Tonette Mouton aka Mama T created this catchy rap song for them that includes some important instructions for academic success including "Just some advice: Don't act up at school/Or this mama will act like a fool."

Kevin Durant gave a beautiful tribute to his mother, Wanda Pratt, during his speech while accepting the NBA's MVP award. The moment was an important one because too often Black mothers, single Black mothers in particular, are painted as inept and ineffective. It seems the only time we can collectively rally to celebrate a Black mother is after her child is dead.

The short commercial is beautiful, and clearly Wanda did a great job.
