Many of us have fond memories of growing up with the American Girl series. Addy, in particular, was a favorite because she dramatized the difficulties of slavery and a quest for freedom.

This Summer the American Girl company will debut it's third Black Doll.

Melody Ellison is a nine-year-old growing up in Detroit during the 1960s civil rights era. She loves to sing, and, of course, loves the sounds of Motown.

The company worked with a six panels of experts, including civil rights legend Julian Bond, to make sure Mellody's story came together accurately.

Her price tag is $115, but if you also want the recording studio and all the rest of her accessories, that will set you back nearly $900.
