Arrest Made in Murder of Philadelphia Transwoman, Kiesha Jenkins


Philadelphia police have arrested Pedro Redding for the brutal murder of transgender woman, Kiesha JenkinsABC 6 reports.

Jenkins was beaten and fatally shot in Philadelphia last week. She is the 18th transgender woman of color killed in the United States this year and the second transgender woman of color killed in Philly in the last five months.

Pedro Redding, who has a criminal history including four prior arrests for narcotics, aggravated assault, robbery, and firearms violations, has been arrested for being one of the 5 or 6 men involved in Jenkins' murder. Redding was arraigned on murder, conspiracy and weapons charges in connection to Jenkins death on Oct. 6.

Despite the wave of murders of transgender people across America, police are not calling Jenkins' death a hate crime. They say robbery was the assumed motive.

Police still looking for the other men involved in the Jenkins' death.
