Denise Stewart was only wearing a towel and underwear when she opened the door for police in 2014. Stewart is now filing a lawsuit against the NYPD for the incident NY Daily News reports.
Police were investigating a 911 call of a domestic argument in the apartment building that Stewart lives in, but had no specific apartment number. Police say they heard loud noises coming from Stewart’s apartment and went to investigate.
"What they did to her is an affront to all women, especially women of color," said lawyer Amy Rameau, who represents the Stewart family. She filed a suit on Thursday in Brooklyn Federal Court.
"They made up a story that (Denise) pulled off her clothes and said, 'I'll fight you all,'" Rameau said. "She's suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes, and she's incapable of fighting them."
The police have been cleared of any wrongdoing.
