Janelle Monae on Her Political Voice: "We Believe that Silence is Our Enemy"

Since she stormed on the scene with her impressive EPs, Janelle Monaé has given us something different. "I represent the other," she told CNN during a recent a sit down.

And that desire to speak for the unheard voices extends to how she's used her celebrity to draw attention to police brutality. She and Wondaland, the collective of artists she leads, recorded "Hell Yu Talmbout"

It's clear that Janelle is continuing a long tradition of Black women doing the work.
