Three Black women mathematicians at NASA fight for their place at the table in the new trailer for Hidden Figures.
The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae who portray the little known women who charted the course that launched John Glenn, the first American astronaut to make a complete orbit of the Earth.
The new trailer makes clearer how the women lobbied to be included in the groundbreaking mission.
Henson, as Katherine Johnson, demands to be privy to the most important planning.
“I need to be in that room hearing what you hear,” Henson tells Costner in the trailer, who replies, “Within these walls who makes the rules?”
Henson pushes back: “You sir, you are the boss. You just have to act like one… sir.”
“Hidden Figures” will open in limited release on Dec. 25 and nationwide on Jan. 6, 2017.
The first trailer for "Hidden Figures" starring Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monáe and Octavia Spencer premiered Sunday during the Olympics. The film tells the stories of Katherine G. Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. The women were Black women mathematicians who began working for NASA in the 1950s.
The women charted by hand the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. The film is based on the book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly which debut in September. The film is coming in January 2017.
Janelle Monaé was one of a handful of current artists that Prince co-signed enthusiastically. When the man she knew as her mentor passed away in April, Monae expressed her shock and grief. She channeled that admiration into an incredible medley performance during the 2016 BET Awards.
In an all-white lace ensemble, Monae performed "Delirious," "Kiss," "Pop Life" and "I Would Die 4 U."
Janelle even gave us a peek of her buns in a flash back to Prince's outfit at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards.
