Some of the most outspoken Black American celebrities have made it clear that they do not prefer to be referred to by their ethnicity. On television,  Whoopi Goldberg and Raven-Symoné have stated explicitly that they do not want to be labeled as "African-American."

Kimberly Foster breaks down the difference between nationality and ethnicity and why it's possible to love your African-American identity and lay full claim the rights and privileges of being an American.
