Maryland Woman Killed by Ex-Boyfriend Shortly After Breakup

University of Maryland graduate Mariam Folashade Adebayo was killed Monday evening outside a Germantown, Maryland Target by ex-boyfriend Donald Bricker, police say. Abedayo had recently ended the relationship and may have agreed to meet with Bricker that night after he threatened to harm himself over the breakup.

Adebayo, 24, received a degree in public health in 2013 and had just begun a new job in Columbia, Maryland. Her family has said that though Adebayo, who went by Shade, ended the 6 month relationship with Bricker he refused to take no for an answer.

Witnesses told police Adebayo and Bricker were fighting in a car in the parking lot when she got out to get away. Bricker followed her out of the car holding a gun, firing at her once and then a second time after she had fallen to the ground.

Bricker fled and was arrested after crashing his vehicle. He is being charged with first degree murder. Bricker apparently has a lengthy criminal history and is on the state's sex offender registry, though if Adebayo was aware of this history she hadn't shared the information with her family.
