Sanaa Hamri Will Direct Film on Ballet Dancer Michaela DePrince's Life Story


Michaela and Elaine DePrince’s memoir “Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina," will be turned into a feature length film directed be Sanaa Hamri, Variety reports.

Michaela DePrince is a Sierra Leonean-American ballet dancer who began life as an orphan in Sierra Leone. The DePrince family adopted Michaela when she was four-years-old. Michaela was inspired by an image ballerina and the DePrince family encouraged her love of dance.

She studied at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at the American Ballet Theatre, before becoming the youngest principal dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. She is currently a member of Dutch National Ballet’s main dance company.

Sanaa Hamri, who began her career directing music videos, is the director of "Something New," "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," "Just Wright," and an executive producer on “Empire.”
