This Poet Captures Why We Really Don't Care How You Feel About Our Makeup

Poet Sha'Condria "iCon" Sibley shatters preconceived notions about makeup and beauty in the poem "In My Skin" performed at the 2015 Texas Grand Slam Poetry Festival.

In the brutally honest poem, iCon shares her struggle with acne, eczema, hyper pigmentation, and more. She unapolejectally proclaims how sick she is of both men and women conflating the use of makeup with self-hate. iCon boldly admits that when her skin feels like a curse, makeup has been a blessing. Her use of makeup isn't vanity, it's survival.
