On this previous weekend's "SNL," the incredibly funny Sasheer Zamata tackled the lack of diversity within the tech world, using the current offering of Emoji's as an example.
SNL often gets it wrong, but this sketch from Saturday's episode with Chris Rock was a rare bright spot. In the clip, a panel of guests are presented with scenarios and asked whether or not they would sway their vote.

Last night Maya made a surprise appearance on the 'Saturday Night Live' to play Queen Bey in the opening sketch. Of course, it centered around the
much-talked about elevator fight between Solange and Jay Z. Jay Pharaoh played the rapper and Sasheer Zamata played Solange.
Though I, personally, am over the ordeal, this was great!

For years many of us
called on 'Saturday Night Live' to add a Black woman to its cast.
Sasheer Zamata was hired as a cast member in January and
LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones joined the writer's room. But unfortunately it seems the presence of Black women's bodies has only emboldened the long-running variety show to make tasteless jokes that they otherwise would have avoided.
We've been waiting for 'Saturday Night Live's' Sasheer Zamata to get some major shine on in the weekly comedy show, and her performance as 'Scandal's' Olivia Pope.
In the sketch, Sasheer delivers orders at a rapid pace and confuses the newest gladiator Kelsey (played by Lena Dunham).
“SNL” celebrates Black History Month with a musical short video starring Jay Pharoah, Kenan Thompson, and the newest cast mate Sasheer Zamata called “28 Reasons to Hug a Black Guy.”
Once again Sasheer Zamata is relegated to the role of doo-wop girl, but the skit is hilarious.
News broke today that Sasheer Zamata is the
newest SNL cast member. The Indiana native has paid her dues working with the Upright Citizens Brigade, and she'll be the first Black woman cast member on the show in half a decade.
She's set to make her debut on the January 18th episode, but if you're anxious to see what she's made of. Check out her character reel.
The girl's got talent. Hopefully this means no more Black men in wigs.
TVGuide.com recently asked SNL cast member Kenan Thompson some pointed questions about the show's lack of women of color. Kenan asserted he would no longer be playing black women characters for the show. Though that decision is a heartening one, his comments on why there remains a gap in the representation of black women in comedic spaces were less than progressive. Kenan said, “It’s just a tough part of the business,” he tells TV Guide. “Like in auditions, they just never find ones that are ready.”
A group of funny black women decided to take on Kenan's challenge. In this video, filled with vignettes and impressions showing off their talent. The end result is undeniable. Black women are ready for any stage.

SNL addressed issues of race multiple times throughout the weekend's broadcast. One of the more hilarious sketches featured cast members Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharaoh alongside Kerry Washington as "nonpartisan" black intellectuals discussing the work of President Barack Obama in "How's He Doing?"

This weekend Kerry Washington became the 9th black woman in Saturday Night Live's history to host the comedy sketch show. The show's newest class of comedians features no people of color, and the shut out has prompted lots of criticism from viewers wondering about the shut out.
