At 48, comedian Leslie Jones is finally breaking into the mainstream with her first big in role in Ghostbusters.

Like many Black girls who aspire to be in entertainment, Jones says she had few role models to look to as she was considering a career. But seeing Whoopi Goldberg on television changed her life.

When I was young, my dad always let me listen to comedy albums. I always knew about comedy. I always loved comedy. The day I saw Whoopi Goldberg on television, I cried so hard. Because I kept looking at my daddy going, 'Oh my god! There's somebody on TV who looks like me! She looks like me! Daddy! I can be on TV. I can be on TV. I can do it. Look at her. Look at her. She looks just like me.'

I watched that. My dad recorded it for me. I literally watched it everyday after school.

I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart because now I know what I'm doing when I put on that Ghostbusters suit and little girls see me on TV now. They're gonna go, 'I can do it,' and you gave that to me, and I love you. I love you from my heart and my soul. I love you for what you've done for Black women. I love you for what you'd done for Black comedians, and I love you.

The exchange was loving and heartfelt one between two women who've come under fire for the substance of their comedy. Despite the controversy and neither having a look that fits narrowly into a mainstream ideal, they've both flourished. Leslie is cast member on Saturday Night Live, and Whoopi has achieved the coveted EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) for her work on on stage and screen.

After defending Bill Cosby in the face of repeated allegations of sexual assault, and even in the wake of the 2005 deposition testimony in which Cosby admitted to drugging women, Whoopi Goldberg has apparently backtracked.

Last week, Univision host Rodner Figueroa was fired after he said First Lady Michelle Obama looked like Planet of the Apes.  The women of The View discussed the controversy today. And while the majority of the panel agreed that the comment was racist, actress  Raven-Symoné wasn't so sure.

Last week, supermodel Beverly Johnson wrote an essay in Vanity Fair alleging that she, too, had been drugged by Bill Cosby at his New York home. She stopped by The View to discuss the ordeal earlier this week.

Patti Labelle's voice has aged like wine. Whatever she's doing, she needs to bottle it and sell it because her appearance on "The View" this week was absolutely phenomenal.

Father's Day has passed but debates about the roles and importance of fathers in children's lives continue. When Terry Crews stopped by 'The View' last week, he stirred up a bit of controversy with his views on the necessity of fathers in the lives of happy children. Crews argued, "There are some things that only a father can give you." He went on to say that only a father can instill confidence in a child: "He will be insecure until he finds one." Sherri Shepherd agreed, but both Whoopi Goldberg and Jenny McCarthy challenged the viewpoint.
