As Janelle Monae's star continues to rise, it's fun to see her get more and more huge opportunities. This year the electric lady stars in a new Super Bowl ad for Pepsi. In the spot, Janelle dances through the years. She starts off in the suit we've seen her in so many times. She, then, moves to the 80s to dance to Madonna and ends up in a modern day club. We even see Janelle change out of her signature black and white and into Pepsi Blue.
Mini Cooper tapped tennis champion Serena Williams for their Super Bowl commercial. In the spot, Serena takes down all of the labels that have been put on her for her entire career. "Too strong," she says, "What does that mean? I don't know. It just means that I'm stronger than you."
Serena reaffirms that she's confident in who she is. "I define myself," she asserts. She goes on to detail how she's built up her self assurance.
Serena concludes with some important words. "No one can define you. Only you can define you."

Salt, Pepa, and Spinderella came together for a new GEICO commercial featuring one of their biggest hits, Push It. It's great to see the trio featured on a platform this huge. Geico is the 2nd largest auto insurer in the US.
Serena Williams is one of the most influential Black women in sports, and despite her many setbacks, she comes back year after year and proves she's a fierce competitor.
Kevin Durant gave a beautiful tribute to his mother, Wanda Pratt, during his speech while accepting the NBA's MVP award. The moment was an important one because too often Black mothers, single Black mothers in particular, are painted as inept and ineffective. It seems the only time we can collectively rally to celebrate a Black mother is after her child is dead.
The short commercial is beautiful, and clearly Wanda did a great job.
Cheerios brought back the interracial family that had so many up in arms last year for another adorable commercial.
